Acorn Project

The aim of The Acorn Community Theatre project is to create and develop a superb 200 seat all-age community theatre for entertainment, training and participation in the performing and visual arts in the heart of Worksop, called The Acorn Theatre.

The Acorn Theatre is on Queen Street in the centre of Worksop, where once stood the URC Hall. We believe it  creates another dimension to the town centre complex which comprises "The Crossing Church & Centre" on Newcastle Street and Jaguar's "Royal Court" private apartments which opened on Queen Street in February 2007.

The project is being led by the dedicated and talented volunteers of Acorn Community Theatre Limited and indeed, the first phase of internal remodelling has been completed by our own volunteer team of experienced tradesmen, builders, craftsmen and technical experts. We now have an "interim" Acorn Community Theatre used by local groups and individuals as well as professional touring companies, with a licensed bar, professional box office & seating capacity of 200 with superb, versatile retractable seating.

Our same team of dedicated and skilled volunteers will also complete the final phase of internal construction following the completion of the main external work. This will significantly reduce the total cost of the project whilst still maintaining the highest standards. In addition to a swell of support for this project from local schools, community groups, individuals and local councils, we are also delighted to have the strong and enthusiastic support of our MP who came on board in January 2006 and who can see the huge regenerative benefit of the theatre to the local community.
